PERFORMANCE ART IN THE DARK, 2020

I’ve been making art as early as 2015. Years later after having failed to bring interest to my work, I stood in public carrying a protest sign that read “I AM AN ARTIST”. The purpose of the project was to protest my own self-doubt and the doubts of any one else.

For this project, I film one of my performances in the dark so that no one can see. While the work can be read as a bleak metaphor for my art projects that have gone largely unnoticed, it could also be interpreted as performing or making art for nobody’s enjoyment but my own.

Towards the end of the performance, I began to wonder for the first time, what beautiful things will I not notice in my lifetime?

In the original video file it’s possible to increase the exposure to reveal what can’t be seen.
